Tony winner Beth Leavel and stage and screen vet Richard Thomas will complete the initial cast of the off-Broadway production of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. Leavel and Thomas join previously announced cast members Mark Consuelos, Harriet Harris, Craig Bierko and Polly Draper. Performances begin November 7 at the Minetta Lane Theatre, with opening night set for November 13.
Conceived by Brian Shnipper and directed by Stuart Ross, Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays features short plays from writers including Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Jeffrey Hatcher, Moises Kaufman, Joe Keenan, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, Jose Rivera, Paul Rudnick and Doug Wright. The cast of the off-Broadway production will rotate on a monthly basis.
Leavel earned a Tony Award for The Drowsy Chaperone and received a Best Actress Tony nomination for the recent Broadway musical Baby, It's You! Her other Broadway credits include Elf, Mamma Mia!, Young Frankenstein, 42nd Street, The Civil War, Show Boat and Crazy For You.
Thomas was last seen on Broadway in Race. He has also appeared on Broadway in A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, Democracy, Love Letters, The Front Page, Fifth of July, Everyone in the Garden, The Playroom and Strange Interlude. His many film and TV credits include The Waltons, Wonder Boys, Just Cause, Roots: The Next Generations and Barefoot in the Park.
